| Neil
signed for Bang Records, and recorded "Solitary Man" in
1966, the same year as I got my first guitar and sat, by myself,
for hours learning.
1967
was the year that Neil's "I'm A Believer" was recorded
by The Monkees. This was also the same year that I made my first
live appearance, singing "Sleepy Joe" by Herman's Hermits.
Just like The Monkees, Herman's Hermits were a manufactured band.
"Brooklyn
Roads" was recorded in 1968 and was the most personal song
that Neil had written up until then because Brooklyn was his home.
This was also the year of my second gig. This time I sang "Green,
Green Grass Of Home". Oh no, I still sing it today - occasionally.
"Morningside"
was recorded in 1972, the year that I left home, and 26 years later,
I started to perform the song. OK, so it took me a while, but what
a good one. (Look up the lyric).
Neil
wrote about the song Desiree "I wrote it in my beach house
so there's definitely some ocean vibes going on in that one".
It was recorded in 1977, the year that I was in Cyprus, soaking
up them ocean vibes and writing quite a bit myself.
I
met my wife, Sue, in 1978 and till this day I've never given her
flowers (hayfever, honest). "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"
was recorded in 1978. (Amendment: Although I still have not
given Sue flowers I did buy her some on our 25th wedding anniversary,
however, my son Ryan presented them so, nope, still not given her
any).
Sue
and I got married 8 September 1979. 1979 was the year that Neil
Recorded "September Morn" which was originally going to
be in "The Jazz Singer" but was replaced by "Hello
Again". (Again, look up the lyric).
Our
son, Ryan, was born in January 1982. This was the same year "I'm
Alive" was recorded.
In
1984, Neil recorded "You Make It Feel Like Christmas".
Sorry Neil, our daughter, Carrie, was born on 8 December 1983 so
you missed that one by a year.
1986
was the year that I decided to do a lot more with my music, which
had always been the major story of my life, and
it was also the year that Neil recorded one of my favourite songs
of his "The Story Of My Life".
Towards
the end of the last century
I'd been getting onto the country scene and shortly after I began
rehearsing for my country act I heard that Neil had made an LP in
Nashville called "Tennessee Moon". And what a fine album
that is.
So,
what next? How about Neil hearing a song I've written and wanting
to record it. Now, there's a great way for our life's to be linked.
There will be a couple of my songs as MP3's on my sounds page for
you to download in the very near future.
